Anthony Fidelis Uwah was born on November 21, 1972, in Nung Mkpe, Obio Offot community, Uyo Local Government, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.
EDUCATION
He attended Primary School at Afaha Udoeyop, Ibesikpo, in Akwa Ibom State, where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1980. He then attended Offot Ukwa Secondary Grammar School Obio Offot and Community Comprehensive Secondary School Four Towns, Akwa Ibom State. He later attended Government Day Secondary School Jaji, Kaduna, and wrote his West African School Certificate Examination at Alhudahuda College Zaria, Kaduna State, in 1987.
He obtained a BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State in 1996, and proceeded to the National Youth Service in 1997. In 1998, he gained admission to study Medicine and Surgery at the University of Calabar, from where he graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. He obtained an MSc degree in Clinical Biochemistry in 2012 from the University of Uyo Postgraduate School, and proceeded to a doctorate in 2013 at the University of Calabar, from where he obtained a PhD in Chemical Pathology from the Medical Laboratory Science Department in 2019.
CAREER/WORK EXPERIENCE
Anthony Fidel Uwah started his medical career at Mercy Hospital Abak, after his internship at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital in 2007. He later joined the service of the University of Uyo College of Health Science as an academic staff in the Biochemistry department. He later became the founding Head of the Department of Medical Biochemistry in 2021. He is currently the Coordinator of the Preclinical Programme in Medical Biochemistry at the University of Uyo.
Anthony Fidelis Uwah also served as a Visiting Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Medical Biochemistry, at Bowen University, Iwo, OSUN State between 2021! to 2024. He was an Associate Professor of Medical Biochemistry at David Umahi Federal University of Health Science, Uburu, Ebonyi State, where he was the Coordinator of MBBS/BDS programmes between July 2023 to June 2024.
